Simples Ways to Earn Money as a Stay-At-Home Mom

When I started out this article, I tried to list at least 25 passive income ideas. Will just add as many extra ideas as we can to make this really useful for all of the moms reading this.

Earn Money Selling Cookies

Become a Freelancer Online

Offer your skills and services to clients on a project-by-project basis. Freelancing is a great option for stay-at-home moms because it allows you to offer your skills and services to clients all over the world.

In my case, this has been the best money-maker option, as it allows for flexible hours and some pretty good income. Let’s say that, after freelancing for a while, I incorporated my own web design agency and it pays the bills quite handsomely.

This means you can choose the projects that fit your schedule and interests: writing, graphic design, web development, programming, video editing, and more.

Platforms such as Upwork, Freelancer, or Guru are great places to find freelance work. I don’t recommend Fiverr, as it’s a pretty shabby platform with a very cheap client pool. Starting out as a “5 dollars gig” platform, Fiverr can be turned into a profitable platform for your services, but it takes a little more time and effort.

Earn Money with Online Tutoring

Another great way to earn money for stay-at-home moms who have a background in education or expertise in a particular subject. You can work as an independent tutor or teach for a company that hires remote teachers. Platforms such as VIPKid, iTutor, and Chegg Tutors are a great place to start.

What you need is to be knowledgeable in a certain subject and be willing to share that know-how. Now, with Zoom, Google Meets and other video conferencing platforms, working with people from all over the US (or further) is a breeze.

Provide Virtual Bookkeeping or Accounting Services

A great way to earn money from a side hustle is to offer financial services to businesses remotely. If you have a background in accounting and can find your way through financial records, you can offer your services remotely to businesses.

This can include tasks such as creating financial statements, managing budgets and preparing taxes. Not everybody is happy to use TurboTax on their own, so having an experienced accountant is priceless.

There is a lot of earning potential in this niche, starting from a few hundred dollars to thousands. You just have to be good enough. Platforms such as Bench, Bookly, and Xero are great places to find virtual bookkeeping clients.

Become a Social Media Manager

If you like social medial, you can help businesses and individuals manage their social media presence. This doesn’t mean spending time endlessly watching funny cat videos, but there is money to be made.

Some companies are willing to pay over $500/month for someone to create their social media content and share it.

You can help businesses and individuals manage their social media presence by creating and scheduling posts, engaging with followers, and analyzing metrics. Platforms such as Hootsuite and Sprout Social are great tools for social media management.

If you don’t like to use (or cannot afford) Photoshop, a free Canva license is already enough. Set up a premium account on Freepik as well (pretty affordable for what it provides) and you have millions of royalty-free images and fonts to play with.

Online Survey Taking

Get paid for your opinions by participating in online surveys.

This is a simple way to make money from home, although not too lucrative. It’s OK for someone who’d like to earn a few tens of bucks extra, but won’t be a decent money-making option, if you’d like to earn a living from this.

Survey companies pay you to complete surveys and give your opinion on products and services. Use Swagbucks, Survey Junkie, and Toluna to get paid gigs for online surveys.

Set Up Shop and Sell Online

Selling products on an e-commerce platform is a great way to earn extra money. Setting up an online store and selling products is a great option for stay-at-home moms who are creative and enjoy making their own products.

Platforms such as Etsy and Amazon allow you to set up your own shop and sell your products to a global audience. This is a flexible and low-cost way to start your own business.

As you grow your business, it’s a good idea to create your own website for your emerging brand. This will allow you to get rid of the Etsy and Amazon fees while giving you full freedom to manage your store.

If successful, this can turn into a full-time job-like career, with the difference that you will be in the position to hire out help and still be able to enjoy family life.

Sell Online Courses

If you have expertise in a particular subject or skill, you can create and sell online courses. You can use platforms such as Udemy and Skillshare to host your courses and reach a large audience.

There have been many SAHMs who were able to build a successful business by sharing their knowledge in a certain industry.

Earn Money With Dropshipping

Set up an online store and partner with suppliers to sell products without holding inventory.

Dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where a store doesn’t keep the products it sells in stock. This means that, if you don’t have storage space for the merchandise, you can still sell a lot.

Instead, when a store sells a product, it purchases the item from a third party and has it shipped directly to the client.

As a stay-at-home mom, you can start a dropshipping business by setting up an online store and partnering with a supplier. Platforms such as Shopify and AliExpress are great places to start a dropshipping business.

Make Money Online with a Blog

Share your experiences and interests with an online audience and monetize through advertising, sponsorships, and affiliate marketing.

Blogging is a great option for stay-at-home moms who enjoy writing and have a passion for a particular topic. You can start your own blog and monetize it through advertising, affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, and creating your own products. Platforms such as WordPress and Blogger are great places to start a blog.

Earn Money Online Writing Content

Provide Transcription Services

One of the easiest jobs for moms is to transcribe audio or video recordings for businesses and individuals.

If you have good typing skills and attention to detail, you can offer your services as a transcriptionist. Platforms such as TranscribeMe and Rev are great places to find transcription work and, if you are doing a great job, you can increase prices to earn a very decent income.

Provide Virtual Event Planning Services

If you are well-organized and love event planning you can earn money from home with Virtual event planning.

This service includes tasks like creating event timelines, coordinating vendors, and managing guest lists. Doing virtual event planning is not that difficult, you can use Eventbrite and Meetup to find clients.

Sell Stock Photography or Provide Photo Services

The creative SAHMs with decent cameras have another way to earn money from home: sell photographs for use in marketing materials or take photos for various events.

If you have a talent for photography and enjoy taking photos, you can offer your services as a photographer. You can take family portraits, event photography, and product photography.

For the ones who already have some decent images that can be sold, platforms such as Shutterstock and iStock are great places to earn income from your work.

Become a Babysitter

You are already a mom, so pre-qualified for the job. Offer your babysitting services to friends, family, and neighbors. They may be in need of a babysitter and will be more likely to trust someone they know.

When setting your rate, consider your qualifications, experience, and location. You may also want to charge more for overnight or special needs children.

It is important to also have clear communication with the parents about rules and expectations. Make sure to have First Aid and CPR certification, as they allow you to get premium rates and also know what to do in case of an emergency.

Start a Pet Daycare Business

If you’re not really into kids, but love animals, you can either be a pet sitter or go to the next level and start a pet daycare business.

To ensure the safety and comfort of the pets in your care, you should create a peaceful environment. If you have an extra room, it would be ideal to use it as a pet daycare space. Keep your space clean, well-ventilated, and accessible, with enough outdoor space for the pets to run.

Make sure you are up to date with each pet’s dietary needs, health concerns, daily routine, preferred games, and, even more importantly, what pets they accept around.

Earn Money with Voice-Over Work

Use your voice to record commercials, narration, or other forms of audio content. When I was still working as a radio DJ, we had voiceovers who’d earn a pretty buck by recording commercials.

If you have a good speaking voice and enjoy recording audio, you can record voice-overs for commercials, audiobooks, and other projects. Platforms such as Voices.com and VoiceBunny are great places to find voice-over work.

Translating: Use your language skills to translate documents or interpret for individuals or businesses.

Online Personal Shopping or Styling

If you have an eye for fashion and enjoy helping others put together outfits, you can offer your services as an online personal shopper.

You can work with clients remotely to help them choose clothes and accessories that fit their personal style and budget. For this type of service, there are also platforms you can use: Stitch Fix and Trunk Club.

Offer Interior Design Services Remotely

If you have experience with interior design and enjoy creating beautiful spaces, you can offer your services remotely to various businesses and individuals who want to beautify their homes.

You can start your own podcast and monetize it through advertising, affiliate marketing, and even selling your own products. Platforms such as Anchor and Buzzsprout are great places to start a podcast.
